Aspiring Headteacher – Preparing for Headship
This course is aimed at Deputy and Assistant Headteachers who are aiming to undertake NPQH in 2018/2019.
 
Summary
• The September 2016 Preparing for Headship programme is designed for Deputy and Assistant
• Headteachers who are aiming to undertake NPQH in 2018-19. Its main purposes are:
• To ensure that participants are covering the aspects of leadership they need to cover in their current role, a year ahead of entering into NPQH
• To explore with participants their leadership styles and approaches
• To develop leadership skills in their current role as a foundation for headship.

Programme content
The course will cover:
• Personal profile
• Leadership self-evaluation: the requirements of NPQH
• Leadership styles and the unique characteristics of headship
• Specifics of school leadership:
• School Self-Evaluation
• School Development Planning
• Leadership for school improvement
• Leading teaching and learning – strategic approach
• Choice of personal development themes, e.g.
• Closing the Gap
• Maximising performance of MAT learners
• Challenging relationships and situations
• Curriculum transformation
• Assuring accountability and distributive leadership
• Leading and managing change
• Modelling and developing resilience and wellbeing
• Personal coaching and mentoring
