This professional learning offer is specifically for teachers new to the role of Foundation Phase leader, or those who feel that they need to develop their leadership skills further in order to raise expectations and standards in Foundation Phase.
It will consist of a range within the delivery model including central EAS delivery, peer visits, action research and lead Foundation Phase school sharing. All sessions will incorporate relevant aspects from the ELTF to support the learning conversation to improve standards.
This extended course (seven days) has proved highly successful in raising the profile and confidence of Foundation Phase leaders who have previously attended this course. All aspects of leadership are covered, including:
• leading a team • creating clear action plans • high quality provision and pedagogy • providing feedback to team members and • effective data analysis.
Strong leadership skills of Foundation Phase leaders are closely aligned to improved outcomes in standards. Where the Foundation Phase is well led, monitored and evaluated this leads to the raising of standards, as identified by Estyn in the annual report (2016-17) published in 2018
• Lead, monitor and evaluate Foundation Phase implementation in their schools • Focus on how to raise standards of achievement through team engagement • Analyse and interpret both quantitative and qualitative data including the AWCDS to ensure that provision and quality of teaching have positive impact for all learners • Lead, manage and challenge a team to improve outcomes through the development of clear action plans for improvement • Develop leadership skills and share experiences with other leaders, • Undertake action research on a chosen area for improvement which will lead to an impact evaluation by the end of the course
