Block Play - Pedagogy and Progression in the Foundation Phase.
This event will focus on the rationale behind Block Play at Monnow - How children represent their environment and the links to STEM.
There will be opportunities to explore children’s planning, designs and developing/ completed constructions.
We will explore progression and resources from Nursery to Year 2.
The session will include opportunities to explore:
? The pedagogy behind the Block Play ? The organisation of the resources to facilitate continuity and progression. ? The management of the area in order to provide the balance between child and adult enhanced learning. ? How learning is supported and developed through links to classroom projects. ? Observe the application of literacy and numeracy skills and early STEM skills through purposeful Block Play ? Where next for Monnow?
? A clear understanding of the stages of block play ? Knowledge of resources to enhance Block Play ? Understand the clear distinction between Block Play and construction resources ? A deeper understanding how to challenge all learners. ? An understanding of how to deliver this aspect of foundation phase pedagogy and meet the requirements of learning. ? An appreciation of how well resourced Block Play areas, used effectively promote high levels of engagement and opportunities to raise standards in many areas of learning and the four core purposes of the new curriculum
