Tackling the Tail of Underachievement in Year One (LLC intervention training for TAs in Y1)
Quality intervention by trained Teaching Assistants can significantly contribute towards closing the achievement gap which can exist in the early stages of literacy acquisition. This 5-day training is for Teaching Assistants to deliver a 10-week intervention using guided reading and writing to improve the literacy skills of targeted children in Year One. The training is aimed at pupils who are working just below the middle of the class who will benefit most from daily, group intervention to become confident literacy learners who can begin to apply their skills across all areas of learning in the Foundation Phase.

A nominated link teacher (ALNCO/Intervention lead/Year One class teacher) will be provided with overview information and invited to contribute to e-learning activities alongside nominated TA in order to support the successful implementation of the intervention.

This intervention requires TAs to have access to sets of Guided Group Reading books organised into colour bands. Lighthouse (Pearson) is a recommended resource (Red – Orange book bands) although alternatives are also suitable. For more information on resources please contact rebecca.kelly@sewaleseas.org.uk
