Islwyn/Blackwood Cluster Training: Support & Challenge
These sessions aim to support governors in developing their understanding of the strategic role of the governing body, looking at planning, monitoring and how governors evaluate school performance – Asking the challenging questions.

Following an initial overview of strategic governance and a review of case studies, the sessions will then focus on aspects of governance that those in attendance wish to explore.

The aspects of governance that can be considered in detail are as follows:
• school development planning
• organisation, structure and membership of the governing body
• effective meetings
• policy development and approval
• governing body self-evaluation
• support & challenge
• role of the link governor
• case studies – for monitoring and evaluation

There will be plenty of opportunity for governors to discuss their current practices, and share ideas and effective practice. Where ever possible, challenge advisers and headteachers will be invited to attend and share the most up-to-date cluster activity, plans and progress.
