EAL Toolkit
A group of Newport based Schools, both Primary and Secondary working in partnership with GEMS have written an EAL Toolkit to support learners who have English as an additional language.
The Toolkit contains support resources, assessment resources, referral documents for GEMS and suggestions on making links with the wider family.
 
The launch will also provide professionals with an opportunity to visit an ‘EAL friendly learning environment’, view EAL learners books and a look at resources.

Headteacher Leadership Coach Training (Cancelled)
This training is aimed at experienced and effective Headteachers, who are interested in developing their Coaching and Mentoring skills to support new and aspiring Headteacher colleagues.

The development programme is based on a 1.5 day + 1 day model with approximately 4-6 months between the first 2 sessions and the final day.

Numeracy Co-ordinator Network Meeting
These termly half-day meetings provide on-going support and networking opportunities for numeracy co-ordinators to meet and share good practice with regards to whole school numeracy alongside colleagues from all five local authorities. Training will also be provided to support numeracy co-ordinators in leading and co-ordinating the implementation of the National Numeracy Framework and in establishing whole-school processes to assess, track and report on pupils’ numeracy skills.

Understanding Performance Data for Primary School.

This is a mandatory course for all new governors or governors who have not completed the session previously and are reappointed for a further term of office. The Government of Maintained Schools (Training Requirements for Governors) (Wales) Regulations 2013.
