This session is for staff to gain a basic understanding of the importance of communication.

Objectives
• To identify what we mean by ‘communication’, ‘language’ and ‘speech’
• To identify the components of communication
• To provide an overview of speech, language and communication development

Successful Futures: Introducing the Four Purposes to NMS

FOR NON-MAINTAINED SETTINGS ONLY

The event will focus on strengthening Foundation Phase practice and pedagogy in relation to the Four Purposes proposed new curriculum. Professor Donaldson and Estyn have noted the need for settings to ensure that they focus on developing the whole child through a broad and balanced curriculum which excites and engages all learners.

Tackling the Tail of Underachievement in Year One (LLC intervention training for TAs in Y1)
Quality intervention by trained Teaching Assistants can significantly contribute towards closing the achievement gap which can exist in the early stages of literacy acquisition. This 5-day training is for Teaching Assistants to deliver a 10-week intervention using guided reading and writing to improve the literacy skills of targeted children in Year One.
